Workplace Safety and Health
Your personal safety is a great concern for Westaff. Since you will be
assigned to one of Westaff's clients' worksites, there are a few things you need
to know before you begin working:
- Remember, do not agree to do harder work, an unsafe task or
something you're not trained for - and contact your Westaff staffing
coordinator if you are asked to do so.
- No matter where you work, your work area or work station should be adjusted
to be as comfortable as the environment allows.
- Even small cuts need prompt first aid.
- Alcohol and non-prescribed drugs are not permitted.
- Know the fire report system, emergency escape plan and hazardous chemical
procedures at the job site.
- Use power equipment only if trained and authorized. Keep safety
guards in place.
Safety Suggestions
these are basic safety rules. Our client does specific job training.
Remember you are not expected to take risks. Do all jobs safely.
Ergonomics - Organize your workspace. Use good posture. Stay
level and comfortable. Shift body and eye focus often, but avoid twisting
spine. Relax. Move around. Wrist Posture: Should not be too high
or too low; avoid bending wrist. Reduce glare: Adjust lighting, tilt screen.
Back fatigue: A footrest may reduce back fatigue. Get help with any
awkward load. You are prohibited from lifting over 40 pounds.
Prevent Falls - Pick it up ... don't pass it up. Quickly warn traffic
and wipe up spills. Keep aisles clear and cords out of walkways. Look
where you go. On stairs, take one step at a time. Use handrail. Don't climb on
things ... use a step stool. Don't stretch ... move the step stool.
Positively no running or "horseplay". Approach corners and doorways with
caution.
Avoid cuts, burns, and breaks - Keep alert near heating/cooking
appliances. Clean your area. Use brush and pan for glass (not hands). If using
a sharp/cutting tool, pay attention and then put it away. Open one drawer at a
time with a handle. Take extra care with paper cutter/stapler. Keep equipment
on a firm base.
Talk to your job supervisor if:
- You don't know
- You notice unsafe acts or conditions
- You have wrist pain
- Machines or wiring are damaged
- You are asked to lift anything over 40 pounds
Report any job accident/injury/illness to your on-the-job supervisor
and Westaff supervisor. State workers' comp protects you.
